“Ini diluar perkiraan kami dan tim Pusat Vulkanologi, Mitigasi Bencana Geologi,” ungkap Untungta kepada Tempo, Minggu (29/8) dinihari, melalui sambungan telepon. Sebelumnya, Untungta beserta pejabat Pemkab Tanah Karo, Sabtu (28/8) kemarin, telah melakukan sosialisasi kepada warga mengenai keamanan Gunung Sinabung.

“Karena ini masuk gunung tipe B, aktif normal, dan sejak 400 tahun lalu tak ada lagi letusan,” kata Untungta. “Mungkin ini kehendak yang kuasa,” lanjut Untungta yang mengaku baru saja tiba di Medan sehabis melakukan sosialisasi kepada warga di kawasan Gunung Sinabung, memiliki ketinggian 2.460 meter.
